Mission/History

Our Mission Statement

Lifetime Assistance, Inc. is a community leader, providing comprehensive services to children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.

Our goal is to foster independence, self-reliance and respect for individuals with disabilities. Our vision is to help each person reach his or her full potential – and realize the opportunities of a lifetime.

Our History

Almost three decades ago, current Board of Directors Chairman Donald Lowry, his wife Donna (who also serves on Lifetime's Board), Nancy Harking, other loving parents, as well as local and state agency leaders, founded Lifetime Assistance Incorporated.

They shared a common vision for an organization that would allow their children with developmental disabilities to live with the highest possible level of independence. This dream started to become a reality when Lifetime opened its first day treatment program, serving 32 people in November 1978.

Today, thanks to the generous support of a great many people throughout Western New York, Lifetime Assistance serves over 1,500 people every day at over 50 sites. Lifetime has more than a dozen programs that are individualized to help children and adults with developmental disabilities reach their maximum potential by promoting self reliance, dignity and a sense of purpose.

Lifetime Assistance is a part of our family now for many, many years, and we are so grateful to have so many people that care, and always there for us when we need help from any department. So from my family, a big thank you to all at LAI!
